what was traded on the silk road?

some things traded on the silk road is gold, silver,jade, glass, and games.  After they were done trading, some things people would return with is silk, of course, herbs, tea, and ceramics. seems like a pretty good deal to me. traders traveled along parts of the silk road as early as 800 b.c. that's really early!! if ONE road has been going for this long then it must be extremely important. which i why one day I'll be going. :)
